LEARN:

This is one tough image. The sun is beaming through the blinds giving much more light to the background of the subjects. To compensate for this, the people must be metered and the light from the blinds ignored as much as possible. May also need to turn on the flash to give light to the foreground subjects. These adjustments however, blows out the cake in the foreground .. so only HDR would work if you wanted the whole image to be correctly exposed.
